About the Program
FriendSpeak is one of our outreach community ministries at Macquarie church of Christ, where we teach English through the Bible in the Ryde area. FriendSpeak is conducive to any schedule. It is a 31 lesson program, standard to meeting once a week for 1 hour. We also provide opportunities for the FriendSpeak students to interact with other students also trying to improve their English helping them to get better connected into the community so they feel confident speaking English.
For many of us who have been born or raised in English-speaking countries, the ability to speak and write English well is a privilege that we take for granted. Good English communication skills can help to secure employment and connect to new social groups and friends.
We believe that the friendly relationship and the exchange of personal insights through FriendSpeak can contribute to the development of these language skills.
How it’s going?
We have had students enrolled in the program from countries such as Korea, China, Peru, Philippines, Iran, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Columbia.
As we read in the book of Luke, the Gospel is to be taken to all the world and FriendSpeak is just another way the Macquarie church of Christ is fulfilling the Great Commission and giving back to the community in Ryde.
